Marrufo opened in 2021 in a historic premises on Calle Noviciado that for years had been home to the legendary Casa Candi, a much-loved bar in Malasaña. The space was transformed whilst retaining that traditional bar atmosphere, with the aim of creating a warm and welcoming place, almost like a home for those who visit.

The menu focuses on classic cocktails, with a particular emphasis on agave spirits such as mezcal and tequila. The menu features a mix of classic and signature cocktails; among the most popular are the Naked and Famous, El Diablo, Alma de Cántaro and the Electric Güera Acid Test. There are also essential classics such as the Bloody Mary, the Martini and the Old Fashioned, as well as a carefully curated selection of mezcals to savour at a leisurely pace and appreciate their nuances.

The spirit of a Mexican cantina is very much in evidence here: drinks, cocktails and the occasional bite to eat, all in a relaxed atmosphere. Music is also an essential part of the venue; every night you might hear soul, funk, Italo disco, cumbias, jazz, progressive rock, indie or boleros over aperitifs.
